Abe loves his little yellow East Wind tractor for keeping his property fire safe and is impressed with its power.
Abe and Dorothy Hassan enjoy their life on a small farm in Wedderburn North West of Bendigo. The 25 acre property has been home for the last 16 years. They are proud of the work they have done renovating the old farm house and Abe grows a small crop of Barley.
With recent bushfires Abe is keen to protect the property. "A neighbour’s place burnt down last summer and it reminds you just how careful you have to be to keep the property fire safe. We basically need to keep the grass down around the house and along the fence lines. Plus collect and burn off the branches that continually fall under the gum trees.
I am getting on a bit now and doing that all by hand just sounded too much like hard work and getting contractors in is pretty expensive.
So I had it in mind to buy a small second hand Kubota with a bucket for around $16,000. Then I found an ad in the paper for a brand new 25 HP East Wind tractor for $17,500.
When I looked at it I got a brand new machine with warranty and much better performance for nearly the same price.
It has everything I need - heaps of power, 4WD and a very good 4 in 1 bucket. Plus it’s great to have the power steering as some of the old Kubotas don’t come with it. It makes life easier for anyone but particularly an old bloke like me.
Now that I have had it for a while I have got to say I am very impressed with the little yellow tractor. I have had a bit to do with machinery having grown up on a farm, served in the navy and driven forklifts for many years.
It is very cheap to run. The ROPS look super strong and are very well made. It is amazing how powerful it is and how much work it will do effortlessly. It handles a full bucket of dirt no problem and the 4 in 1 bucket is fantastic for pushing up and grabbing fallen branches.
I also found a great use for the grabbing feature of the bucket. I had to take an old tyre off a car wheel so I just opened the bucket and clamped onto the tread – it easily broke the bead.
I am looking forward to doing more jobs with the tractor. I’ll put in some new fencing and plan to do some levelling in preparation for a small building that we are putting up.
Plus the guys at East Wind are easy to deal with. As I live a fair way out in the bush I did most of my dealings with them by email and phone and it all ran smoothly.
We couldn’t be happier with our little yellow East Wind tractor and it is definitely been money well spent."
